We went to a local park on Earth Day. We typically go out of our little town to visit other parks, but decided to stick around (due to gas prices!) and the kids loved this park. Something very mystical about the trees and water. Emily was convinced that the big tree had been a tree house at one point and someone pulled down the ladder. They found lots of cool shells by the water too!

Some days I really wonder if I have the creative side to do this photography thing. I'm constantly amazed at others talents. Just a quick flip through Flickr brings up countless photographers with so much talent - it's mind blowing. I'm stuck. While I adore photographing my children and always will, I need to venture out into that scary world and actually DO something. While I have some shots lined up for this Spring - they are all family/friends and will mainly be for portfolio use. I am a perfectionist. I'm afraid of failure. How the heck will I ever be good enough to actually TAKE money for this? Photography IS my passion, it always has been, I just have to find what I need to gain confidence and do this. I'm feeling pretty blah right about now.

My dad turned 81 today. I'm very happy that he's still here with us. It was a little over a year ago that he was diagnosed with Kidney Cancer and Congestive Heart Failure. My children adore their "Poppy".

If the answer is yes, may I suggest going to watch three year olds play soccer? It has got to be one of the funniest things I’ve seen in quite some time!

Holden galloped (not ran or skipped) up and down the field the whole time. Galloped! I was so proud that he did actually kick the ball, though! I was slightly worried that he was just going to stand there and pout the whole time, but eventually he jumped right in. He did cross his arms and growl a few times when the bigger kids kicked the ball in the goal, but he jumped right back in.

He was freaked out at first and didn’t want to participate....volume of people, and people actually paying attention to him kind of scared him. He clung to me for a second, but I just grabbed him and told him to start kicking the ball! Finally he got the hang of it. I must say that for a three year old, he’s quite the kicker. :)At one point he actually ran over to another field and started kicking their ball. Man, I adore three year olds!

On Jr Super Tuesday, the ice storm started. It was pouring rain and slowly everything was being covered in ice. I wanted to stop off and take some shots after I voted, but it was raining too hard. The fields were covered in ice. It was beautiful.

School was cancelled yesterday, so I managed to get outside in our own yard and take some shots. Our poor trees are covered in ice and aren't looking so well!

The cemetary is such a peaceful place. It's nothing like the park where you have children screaming and running around you. While I love & enjoy my own children, I'd much rather enjoy a lovely picnic lunch at the cemetary instead of a loud outing at the park! Perhaps I am a little bit weird. That's okay. :)

This is so hard for me. I'm watching her grow up! I took this picture the day I bought my Rebel. This was Mothers Day 2005 - so a little over two years ago. She hadn't even lost a tooth yet, nor had she gone to kindergarten.

And now look at her. She starts 2nd grade in less than 2 weeks. This is so hard! I'm feeling a bit sentimental lately.

If you live in central Ohio, you MUST visit Jeffrey's Mansion! It's the most beautiful park that I've ever been to and even though it takes me 45 minutes to get there, I try to visit it often. It's usually swarming with photographers but today we pretty much had the place to ourselves!

These kids usually only get to see each other once a year. Emily and Cassady are best friends and Em is 9 months older than Cassady. Kaya is 9 months older than Holden. Gavin and Emily used to be best friends, but he's gotten to the point where he doesn't like girls anymore!!

Props to all the photographers out there who might be able to get these kids to sit still and smile! It's tough.

I really have no idea why this one looks so 'noisey'. It was underexposed a little bit and the color was even more wonky, but I don't know what happened. It looks really funky now.

Holy crap I'm way attached to this camera. I went to put in my memory card this morning and it wouldn't go in. Turns out that the prongs in the card reader were bent. I could get it fixed for near $300 at a local shop or have Best Buy send it away (for free since we purchased the 4 year plan) without the guarantee that it would be back for our FL trip. I spent the morning crying and feeling the urge to vomit and I don't even do this for a living yet! Man, do I wish I could justify another camera purchase so I could use my Rebel as a back up, but I've got a long way to go before I'll get the camera of my dreams, so I guess I need to make due with what I have. Anyways, after calming the heck down, I decided to get out my tweezers and hope for the best. I fixed it! Yay me! Now I'm petrified to ever remove or insert another memory card. A couple pictures I took after my near tragedy.

Isn't she pretty? Hard to believe she's almost a second grader!

The recital is over! Emily danced on Friday and Sunday and did a fabulous job! She knows her routines so well and all of the other girls watch her to do see what to do next. Sorry about the distorted faces, but I don't have permission to post the girls pictures.

My child does not want to play on the playset that daddy built. He doesn't want to ride his bike or play in the bubbles. He wants to sit on the patio and eat chives all day long. It's rather amusing.

He says "it's a dead worm, can I eat it mommy?" Hmmmm...I wonder where he got that one from? I think I need to have a talk with his big sister!

But at least Holden enjoyed himself and I got a 2 mile walk out of it!

You'll see that some parts are blown, some are shadows, and some are just off. It's very frustrating. How can you be a full time photographer and avoid full sun? You can't!
I'm enjoying editing in camera raw with Photoshop CS3, but I still haven't figured it all out. Little steps!

Shane FINALLY took the training wheels off of Em's bike today. She did well! I was planning on taking a brake for the POTD because my hands are in so much pain (seriously, the pain is severe), but I couldn't resist this photo op. Holden enjoyed trying to ride on his bike too! My picture for the day is an old one. I didn't take any pictures today. Raging headache and lots of rain makes for an unpleasant day.

This picture was taken at Emily's 6th birthday party. It instantly became one of my favorite shots. There's so much that could have been better about it though. I hate all the distracting stuff in the background, but my PS skills aren't good enough to fix all of that.....yet!

So, today I let the kids do a Easter egg hunt in the house. They don't have any 'sugar' in their actual baskets, so I give them some in the eggs that I hide. My poor deprived children! Here's my goofy daughter with her lovely, food coloring covered tongue :).

Once again, the aperture is 1.8 so I'm having some focusing issues. I just love the look that the 1.8 give me, but I don't think it's worth the blur! My picture looks great through the camera, but once it's downloaded, I see that it's just not so. Sometimes only half the face is in focus. Ah well. I will learn.
